Free Invoice Generator

E-invoice viewer

Open an e-invoice you have been sent, as an XML file or a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD PDF, and read it as an ordinary invoice: who sent it, what for, the VAT and how to pay. The file is read in your browser and goes nowhere.

The e-invoice

An .xml file (XRechnung, Peppol, UBL or CII), or a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD .pdf. Try a sample: or .

It is read as soon as you paste.

  • An e-invoice is the invoice as data. Software reads it; people usually can't, which is what this page is for.
  • It opens both formats the European standard EN 16931 allows: UBL, used by Peppol and much of Europe, and CII, used by Factur-X and ZUGFeRD. XRechnung comes in either, and older ZUGFeRD 1.0 files open too.
  • For a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD PDF it shows the XML inside, which is the legally binding part, not the picture on the page.
  • It reads the file. It does not validate it, and it does not send it to anyone.

Why you might be sent one

Several European countries now require invoices between businesses to be e-invoices. Since 1 January 2025, every business in Germany has had to be able to receive them, and since 1 January 2026 Belgium has required them between its VAT-registered businesses. If a supplier there sends you an XRechnung or a Peppol invoice, your accounting software should import it, but you may still want to read it first. E-invoicing mandates by country lists who has to send and receive them, and from when.

What it shows

  • Who and what. The seller and the buyer, with addresses and VAT numbers, every line with its quantity, unit, price and VAT rate.
  • The VAT breakdown. The amount taxed and the VAT at each rate, with the reason for any exemption or reverse charge, which the file states as a code.
  • How to pay. The amount due, the date, the IBAN and BIC, and the payment reference the seller asked you to quote.
  • The references. Your purchase order or buyer reference (the Leitweg-ID on a German public-sector invoice), and for a credit note, the invoice it corrects.

What this page is not

  • It is not a validator. An e-invoice has to pass the business rules of EN 16931 and of its country's version to be accepted. This page shows what a file says, even if it would fail them. The official validators, such as Germany's KoSIT validator, check the rules.
  • It does not make e-invoices. The invoice generator here makes PDF invoices, which are not e-invoices where a mandate applies.
  • It reads the common fields, not every one. Attachments inside the XML, delivery details and line-level allowances are left out. The totals are the file's own figures, not worked out again here.
  • Some PDFs won't open. If a PDF is encrypted, or stores its XML in an unusual way, the page says it found no invoice inside.
