Billable hours calculator

Work out how many hours a year you can actually sell, once the days off and the work you cannot charge for are out of it — and what those hours come to at your rate.

The shape of your week

All the hours you work in a day, billable or not.

The days you intend to work, before any time off.

The days you will not work

The days you plan to take, paid or not.

Public holidays, illness, the days that go to something other than work. Count them honestly: this is the figure people flatter.

What you can charge for

Round numbers to save typing, not a target. Quotes, admin, chasing payment and the work you redo for nothing all live in the other share.

Only used to turn the hours into money. Leave it blank if you want the hours alone.

What this calculator does not do

  • It does not know your billable share. The presets are round numbers, not a benchmark to hit, and the only reliable way to find yours is to count a fortnight of your own calendar.
  • It does not forecast the work arriving. It tells you what the year could hold if it were full, which is a ceiling rather than a prediction.
  • The revenue figure is what you would invoice, not what you would keep. Tax, business costs and everything else come out of it afterwards.
  • It does not keep anything. Nothing is written to your browser's storage while you use it and nothing is sent to us, so the figures are gone when you close the tab.
